Joelle & Gregory
Celebrating with Champagne
SEVILLE — The happy couple, pictured moments after exchanging vows. They had
travelled to the sun-baked south of Spain with no guests, no seating plan and no speeches
— only each other, a photographer, and a city that has been marrying people off for
the better part of a thousand years.
The announcement
With a deep layered history and old world charm, Spain provided the perfect
backdrop for our union.
Seville beautifully embodies the scars of centuries past, and yet exudes
a vibrant optimism that has evolved without ever fracturing, as if a metaphor for our
convictions, family, life & love.
For all who have played a part in this journey, we thank you sincerely.
Please know that even without your physical presence, your spirit has been with us
throughout.
Thank you for your support through every challenge, and please take a moment to
share in this brief album of our elopement.

THE GROTTO. A quiet moment by the falls before the vows.
THE PLAZA. Tiles, arches, and a city built to flatter a photograph.
THE EVENING. Fairy lights, a bottle, and nowhere else to be.
THE BRIDGE. Hand in hand, and heading somewhere new.

Crew
Wedding Crew Takes a Well Deserved Rest After an Entire Day’s Work.
Special thanks to Diana, Antonio, Maria, and Christiane!
The calm after the storm. A day of thrusting through the city in taxis and on foot
like Big Trouble in Little Seville. Delicate floral arrangements precariously
dangled from clothing, and nary a smudge to bullet proof makeup even when subjected
to the rush of adrenaline or the heat of the moment. You’d never know it from
the beautifully composed photographs.
WHERE IS DOBBY!
The ring never made it to the ceremony and Dobby has not been seen since.
Thankfully a new ring was procured and expedited, but this is little comfort
to the Hogwarts family. A free elf is, once again, the subject of urgent
enquiry.

Disaster strikes
Rogers Stadium Collapses During Huge Toronto Storm. Natural Disaster or SPELL?!
Once in a generation storm swept through Rogers Stadium with no
warning leaving only rubble behind. Scientists are baffled. Rumours of a
“Weather-Modifying Charm” has spread swiftly in the media. “Only a
skilful Wizard could deploy such a charm” warns a local resident who wants
to remain anonymous. “IT’S A COVER UP!” screamed the resident. Just days
earlier the venue fell victim to a high profile heist swiping a ring believed to be the
key to finding the missing Yew wand. Footage can be seen

Muggle Unions: For or Against Magic?
Mudbloods Don’t Belong
What is this I hear of Muggles getting together? Muggles are no
more people than Nagini. They are a cancer, and their spread must be cured of this
world. A muggle union is the start of an epidemic. Our prosperity lies in our
pure-blood.
Meneer Vol de Mort
Pure Is Concentrated; Corrosive
Having seen with my own eyes the erosion of the pure on all that
is being, there is a place for all even among Muggles. They must do without magic
and as such will be safer custodians of the world.
Mad-Eye
Harmless
All this talk of dark arts and weather-modifying charms. I think
there’s nothing to it. A missing ring has more chance of being snapped up by a
Niffler than some dark lord. Probably harmless!

The One That Got Away
So You Think You Can Propose?
With concert tickets in hand and a 2ct platinum ring that
literally arrived the morning of, a hastily devised plan was put together to propose
under the romantic melodies of the Foo Fighters. You see some years ago our plans to
rock out at the Osheaga music festival abruptly ended with the sudden passing of
their drummer Taylor Hawkins (R.I.P.)
This time the venue was close to home at Rogers Stadium and there was a renewed
optimism. Struggling to find a spot to hide the ring I placed it in a silicon pouch
along Joelle’s phone lanyard that ended with a cute Japanese anime figure. I
tied the end in a knot to creat a seal and off we went. Solid plan.
I’ve been keeping a close eye throughout and the moment is near. Confident
I’ve been sharp I… except… I realize she’s now taking
pictures at the full lanyard length. I ask to use her phone for photos and as I
examined the pouch my heart sank… there was no knot. What happened? Turns out
the shorter length was oddly uncomfortable and the knot was in the way. Surprise
😬
It got away
Days later the stadium was levelled by what was reported as a tornado which is
unheard of around these parts. It could have just as easily been attacked by the dark
arts.
Something Old Something Blue
Just Say Yes to Which Dress?
Like the planning itself we were on an expedited schedule.
Thankfully the Brides Project in Toronto has loads of experience, and is an
environmentally and socially conscious organization that supports cancer charities
with all profits earned. They are also fun to work with, and have loads of dress
styles to boot.
It was a tough choice but in the end I settled on a dress made by Pronovias based
in Barcelona. We only discovered the Spain connection while in Seville having
stumbled upon their boutique on a sightseeing stroll. The stars were aligning!
Please check out some of their styles I tried on, and be sure to consider them
when supporting cancer causes.
While we had lofty dreams of doing it all in Seville, the legal
hurdles required made it impractical so we arranged a small officiating party to
exchange signatures… um vows. This called for a new (to me) dress!
For less than the cost of our weekend sushi haul I scored this little number.
The metallic belt was actually tossed in for free by Callina at the Brides Project who
has been very gracious throughout.
After the mishap that led to the loss of the original platinum
engagement ring the hunt was on for a fast replacement. While I never got to see it in
person, it was a traditional solitaire with a round brilliant cut stone that I’m
sure was lovely, but would not stand out in a crowd of white diamonds.
Enter the land Down Under. Australia is home to natural sapphires that dance
between spectrums of greens and blues called Parti sapphires. We discovered this on a
walk down Yonge St where we spotted this little eccentric looking boutique called
Bluboho. They specialize in Vintage Sapphires and spiritual pieces that align with
your energy. Who knew a stone could be vintage. Among the unfamiliar gems that caught
my eye were the Parti Sapphires. How much? 15k… Thank you very much.
But how about directly from the source? Unbelievably there are Australian jewellers
willing and ready to ship beautiful Parti sapphires across the pond at a fraction of
what Bluboho commands. The one that came through for me is Midsomer Jewellery in
Sidney. Time to Parti!
Beauty Is In The Eyes… A Lasting Look I Wish I Could MakeUp!
One of the most nerve wracking moments is having your makeup
applied by anyone for the very first time and especially on your big day. Your face
is the window to the world through which all else is filtered. Thankfully I was in
good steady hands :)
Christiane has a background creating looks for the performing arts and came
highly recommended by Diana. She is the final eye who will help put it all
together and even run alongside you under time duress to hail a cab in Spanish. See
for yourself… you know, as the beholder ;)
💨 poof * magic *
This one is tricky. Will need to get back to you on that.
Lost & Found in Translation
On the hunt for a simple bouquet on the last evening before
the ceremony we made our way to what appeared to be a small florist. Having
negotiated a few narrow streets and an alley on foot we finally made it. To our
amusement the place was more of a desk behind in a tiny glass office that happened
to sell flowers. No worries we came prepared; Joelle has had many hours of Duo Lingo
so we could convey all the nuances of colours & textures right? ..right?
Words bounced off the walls like a ping-pong machine and nothing would stick. I
mean very very little; muy, muy pequeña! It was like a Mexican stand-off but in
Greek. We left with no real clue of what we ordered.
The next morning early we made the trek once again but with trepidation.
Stepping inside the suspense was building, and after exchanging overly enthusiastic
greetings it was… Beautiful! Colourful! Vibrant!
What was lost in translation has been wonderfully found.
Cinderella in Seville
As in the famous fairytale, to find a Prince you need to fit a
glass shoe. Except they never had to walk 30k steps through the streets of Seville
under threat of heat stroke. Let’s just say some compromises were made regarding
footwear and said Prince. The wooden platform heels I packed looked good with the
dress and provided just the right height, but was looking more likely to become a
health hazard.
So on the same morning after picking up the bouquet, and on the eve of the
ceremony, we went slipper shopping sans glass. I’m happy to report health
hazard averted, and Cinderella’s orthopedically correct sandals were on
sale!
